Our Story

VOLKE started with a fairly ordinary frustration: wanting a home that looked considered, and finding that the pieces which got you there were either priced for a showroom or built to last a season.

The middle ground barely existed. Plenty of cheap furniture dressed up in good photography. Plenty of genuinely lovely things at several times what they cost to make. Not much in between — and almost nothing that would tell you plainly which of the two you were looking at.

So we started small and stayed small. A tight range, chosen one piece at a time, with the same test applied to all of it: would we put this in our own home, and can we describe it honestly without reaching for adjectives?

That's still the whole method. We add slowly, we say what things are made of, and we'd rather sell fewer things we can stand behind than fill a catalogue for the sake of looking bigger.
